May 2016 Update

Dear Friends and Family,

The month of May was rushed in and already last week was quickly rushed out! This month held a special lifetime memory as Job and I declared our “I do’s” on May 14th and began our marriage dance with several close family members there to celebrate with us. The following weekend we promptly ventured out on our “honeymoon tour” to visit all of YOU, our partners in ministry!

During our visit in Tahlequah, Job was reunited with mission team buddies Brandt and Barak Tschirhart. Our connections with the Tschirhart family make for an interesting story. Job first met Brandt and Barak in 2008 when they came down to Honduras on a short-term mission team. At the time, Job happened to be working with the missionary leading the group’s mission team that week. So he got to know Brandt and Barak as they worked together. Later Brandt and Barak returned to Honduras on another mission trip and since then the 3 have kept in touch through facebook. Now for my story of connecting with the Tschirhart family. I first moved to Tahlequah during the summer of 2009 for a nursery internship. That summer God led me to the church where Joe and Laura Tschirhart (Brandt and Barak’s parents) minister. I was immediately embraced by the love in their church and returned the following summer after graduating from college and accepting a position at the nursery. The Tschirhart family has been an important part of both of our lives and it’s always interesting to me to see how God makes those connections.

While in Oklahoma we drove down to the nursery and visited a few of my past coworkers. These two are Zully and Nora (sisters) whom I worked with in the propagation greenhouse. They were both instrumental in my early days of learning Spanish. This greenhouse is where I began to learn about the daily lives of Hispanics in their home countries and the complex issues that drive them to immigrate to the U.S. in search of stable employment. I worked with people from various Latin American countries including Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.
